I am drawing a sad little girl who is really proud of her culture. She is also not happy about how western she looks
Image
Materials- Kinky  hair, braiding hair, glue, jean fabric, African print Fabric, acrylic paint.  Process: 1)painted the background                2) Made my drawing on the background                       3) Glued down, two different hairstyles and fabric.  Idea: This picture shows a girl struggling to take pride in her African identity. She feels insecure about her natural hair and  straightens it, thinking it looks better, which is why the side with straight hair has a night background to show dullness. On the other side, she is trying to embrace her African clothes and natural hair, represented by the sunrise background, which symbolizes brightness and pride. Overall, this image represents her journey and efforts to accept and love herself as an African and have pride in her cultural identity.
