Locs

Image
Materials Fabric,Acrylic paint, crochet Locs , hot glue  Process  1) I took a pictures, made a grid on the photo to help with drawing  2)I made a drawing of the picture.  3) I tried a new technique of painting to show different colors on a skin tone  4) I hot glued the hair and fabric on to the diagram  Ideas I made this painting to show how the girl is going through all the different hairstyles she could possibly do, instead of being proud of her natural hair. She is starting to find pride with her culture, little by little and that’s what the scarf represents. I decided to use bright colors on this painting and all my other paintings because African culture is all about bright loud vibrant colors and I wanted to show that in my work.

I have started drawing my image. I will not be making any changes to my thumbnail

No pride

Image
Materials: braiding hair, acrylic paint , canvas , jean fabric and African print material, brushes Process: 1) I took a picture of a girl to use as my reference  2)I made a grid on the picture. 3)I made grids on my canvas and drew the picture  4) I painted the body with an acrylic brush  5) I used a foam brush to paint the background for texture  6) I hand braided all the hair and glued it on the head of my picture  7) I glued pieces of fabric on the background  How this relates to my SI This picture shows how the girl tries a different hairstyle that hides her Afro hair which goes with the pride she has in her African heritage and she is more comfortable in wearing western clothes rather than her African print. The pieces of fabric on the background shows how she had beautiful fabric around her but she doesn’t want it on her.
